HOUSTON, Texas (March 19, 2026) ZettaJoule Inc., an advanced nuclear energy company developing high-temperature gas-cooled modular reactors, today announced the opening of a new office in Houston at the Ion, Rice University’s flagship innovation hub.
ZettaJoule has operations in the U.S. and Japan.
“I am proud to say we are the only advanced small modular reactor company at the Ion,”
ZettaJoule Co-Founder, President, and CEO Mitsuo Shimofuji said.
“We are really excited about joining a community that is sponsored by leading companies, especially in the oil and gas sector.”
ZettaJoule Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer Jeff Harper added
“That proximity to oil & gas tenants creates valuable opportunities for conversations, collaboration and new partnerships.”
ZettaJoule is modernizing the established, publicly available technology of Japan's High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor, which is capable of producing heat up to 950 degrees Celsius, which could unlock transformative energy solutions in oil and gas, steelmaking, aviation, data centers, e-fuels and other high-value uses.
ZettaJoule recently signed an agreement with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES), part of the Texas A&M University System, to explore building a research reactor that has the potential to catalyze up to $1 billion in research collaborations, industrial partnerships, and federal funding over the next decade.
