Information and data available on the Japan Atomic Energy Agency’s High-Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) provide the foundation for our modernized, advanced SMR technology. The HTTR has been in use since 1998 in Ibaraki Prefecture northeast of Tokyo. Major industrial operations rely on fossil fuels for high-temperature process heat and are considered hard to abate due to limited viable alternatives. However, our High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (HTGR) will be capable of supporting energy-intensive processes by operating at temperatures up to 950 °C.
Industries where our ZJ reactor offers the strongest value proposition include Oil and Gas, Chemical Operations, Data Centers, Steelmaking, Transportation and E-Fuels, and Mining.
Conventional light-water reactors (LWRs) cannot provide the same industrial solutions because their heat output is significantly lower.
By modernizing the proven, publicly available technology of the High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) in Japan, which has been in operation since 1998, we anticipate a more streamlined and predictable licensing and construction process compared to other small modular reactor (SMR) companies.
Our reactors will be available as single or multiple modules, giving customers flexibility based on their energy needs without having to commit to a massive reactor facility. Customers will be able to purchase energy as off-takers.
Clean Energy as a Service
A Full-Service Energy Solution
We offer our customers a range of financing and operational benefits adapted to their needs, including the option to operate solely as off-takers. In this case, ZettaJoule assumes ownership, operations, and staffing of the reactor.
This “Energy-as-a-Service” approach ensures customers can access clean, reliable energy, without the complexities of running a nuclear plant.
