As a licensing leader for TerraPower’s Natrium program, Ryan directed the team that authored and submitted the first construction permit application for a commercial advanced reactor to the NRC — a landmark achievement.
Professional experience
Ryan has more than two decades of nuclear experience. Prior to joining ZettaJoule, he held increasingly senior roles at TerraPower as License Application Development Manager, Director of Licensing, Senior Director, PMO, and ultimately Senior Director, New Project Development Execution for the Natrium program.
He spent almost five years at Exelon Nuclear as a Senior Regulatory Engineer and Regulatory Assurance Manager, supporting regulatory compliance and assurance activities across the company's nuclear fleet.
Earlier in his career, Ryan spent seven years with Mitsubishi Nuclear Energy Systems, advancing from Lead Licensing Engineer to Licensing Manager, and then Regulatory Services Manager. He served as the primary liaison between engineering teams in Japan and the NRC during the US-APWR design certification effort, managing licensing activities across more than 20 project areas, presenting to the NRC and the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, and building and mentoring a licensing team.
Before joining Mitsubishi, he worked at GE Nuclear Energy as an Instrumentation and Controls Systems Engineer and later a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. He began his career in the U.S. Navy where he served for four years as a nuclear instructor and division director.
Education
Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
He also earned an MBA from Wingate University.
