Karson Volkmer

Karson progressed into leadership positions at an operating nuclear power plant, eventually assuming managerial responsibility for three departments – all before the age of 30.

He serves on the board of the Bay City (Texas) Public Library Association. 

In addition to being an attorney licensed in Texas, Karson is also a nuclear engineer.

Professional experience

‍Prior to joining ZettaJoule, Karson served in increasingly senior legal roles at STP Nuclear Operating Company. He began as a Staff Attorney, was promoted to Supervising Attorney, and ultimately was named Managing Attorney.

In these roles, Karson supervised the Employee Concerns Program and managed the Contracts and Records Management/Document Control departments.

He also conducted regulatory investigations, reviewed and negotiated contracts, and handled employment and labor relations matters.

Education

‍Karson holds a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University, where he also minored in mathematics and earned a Safety Engineering Certificate from the Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center.

After beginning his career, Karson completed the Next Level Leadership course at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations.

Karson earned his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center and is admitted to practice law in Texas.

Karson serves as a captain on a barbecue cookoff team that has finished among the top five in competitions throughout Texas. He takes the lead for the team in the brisket category.

He enjoys traveling and playing golf whenever possible – often at the same time.
